Check In – Final 3

Check In – Final 3

Sitting here at my desk I can hardly believe that it’s less than three weeks before the big day. Properly scary. I am also pretty fatigued, my plan to really push it the last week materialized. I’ve logged a 710 TSS week, including my longest run in a while and longest swim ever. I am tired and cranky, hungry all the time and only think about my next workout and race day logistics. Swimming: Two sessions in open water, one…

Check In – Final 4 & Roth 2018

Check In – Final 4 & Roth 2018

The air is getting thinner, lads! Only 4 weeks to go, things are now getting properly scary. Last week wasn’t anything special, it was supposed to be a final rest week and I had a 3 day business trip to Bucharest which didn’t help with training. Actually, it helped kind of for swimming, as I had a hotel with pool. After a succesfull 3*1000m endurance grunt on Monday I hit the pool in Bucharest twice and went swimming in Roth…

Check In – Final 5

Check In – Final 5

Here we are 5 weeks out! I’ve had an okay week recently, not doing quite as much as I was hoping for because of terrible weather. Went for a long-ish ride yesterday and aimed at 4.5 to 5 hours, but in heavy wind and rain I called it a day after 3:45. No point in grinding myself down, risking illness or an accident. You see, the one thing I excel at is finding an excuse to train a little less…

Check In – Final 6

Check In – Final 6

Here we are less than six weeks from the big day. Time to check where I’m at and start planning for the big day. Overall I am feeling okay and sort of confident. I’ve lost 1.5 kg since I started the program and don’t have any serious injuries. It is scary as hell, but in a good way. Back when I was racing MTB I tried to scare myself a little bit each session. You know, not too much but…

Recap 18/02

Recap 18/02

2018 Week 2 – If you think you need some fancy new equipment, print it out or write it down and put it somewhere safe along with the money. Wait four weeks and reconsider. Total TSS: 528   Total Time: 7 hr 48 min  TSS/Hour: 67,6 A full week of working out. I did not have a rest day because I didn´t feel like taking one. Fatigue isn´t that bad and I could hit all my workouts (except one) with full…

Recap 18/01

Recap 18/01

2018 Week 1 – How do I improve in all three disciplines? I don´t. Focus on one discipline and master it. I´ll start with the bike. Total TSS: 442   Total Time: 6 hr 46 min  TSS/Hour: 65,3 The new year is here and it is going to be great one! I started off pretty awful, my legs were still in a very bad shape at new years. The worlds most horrible quad sore eventually went away though and I could…

Recap Week 51

Recap Week 51

Training Diary Week 51/2017. A week in the name of recovery. I completed my Sweet Spot Base 1 plan. The workouts last week were all low intensity steady state recovery rides and I swapped the road for the TT bike. That taught me two things: My aero position was too aggressive and I have to start spending time in aero right away. Couldn’t hold it for longer than 10 minutes even at very low intensity. So I guess it is…

Recap Week 50

Recap Week 50

Time to come back to regular reporting – writing – recapping. I´m a lazy bastard when it comes to keeping notes but I remember well that keeping track of progress and thoughts over the week really helped me tremendously to identify my strengths and weaknesses better. As a bonus I now finally have enough data to compare my workouts with session from a year ago and see where I´ve made improvements. Last week was pretty tough and I felt the…

Training Log 17/39 & Race Report Half Marathon Bremen

Training Log 17/39 & Race Report Half Marathon Bremen

Last week has been excellent! The boys and I went to run the Bremen half marathon yesterday and all week revolved around staying sharp and being in form. At least within reason. I still consider this my off season so I didn’t beat myself up too much for a beer or two in the evenings and I allowed myself proper food and socializing. We had our little one baptized on Saturday and had a big party with family and friends…

Training Log 17/38

Training Log 17/38

This week was all about sharpening up for our half marathon on next Sunday. I´ve signed up for this run with my two mates and am really excited about it. Over the season we don´t get to do much together – one is an ultra-runner, another a fast marathon runner and myself a triathlete, so our workouts rarely connect, unless it is an easy run. Now at the end of the season we can do shit together, which is fantastic….
