Boston Blog Week 02 – Ramping It Up
Week two of my quest to finally run an acceptable marathon with no excuses. The started out okay with a day of mild strength training. Never been much of a strength training guy, since I train so little that any extra time available is better spent running. But this time around I figured I might try a different approach. And sinc eI am all in on the running but can’t run all that much anyway if I want to stay healthy I shall give it a shot.
On Tuesday I again opted for cross-training on my turbo trainer, the weather was so bad that running would have been stupid. 90 minutes with some threshold work. Wednesday I went for a run in my lunch break and collected 14k. I believe this will be key to reach my distance targets, to stretch my everyday runs well beyond 10km.
Day | Activity | Duration | Distance | Pace / NP |
Monday | Strength Training | 45 Min | n/a | n/a |
Tuesday | Endurance Bike | 85 Min | 36km | 178 |
Wednesday | Endurance Run | 72 Min | 14km | 5:11 Min/km |
Thursday | Threshold Bike | 65 Min | 27km | 167 |
Friday | Endurance Run | 71 Min | 13km | 5:22 Min/km |
Saturday | Endurance Run w/ 3 x 1k Tempo | 43 Min | 8.6km | 4:58 Min/km |
Sunday | Endurance Run | 83 Min | 16km | 5:10 Min/km |
Thursday was another day cross-training on the turbo, with some threshold efforts, followed by an easy run on Friday night. First run in a long time with a ead torch, usually a sign that I have truly committed to my run program.
Saturday I went for a short run with some drills and a few 1k tempo efforts in between (3:35, 3:38, 3:48, 3:46). Conditions were pretty good and I happy with those splits considering I haven’t done any speed work in like 2 years.
Sunday was time for my long run, which still is not very long. 16k and leisurely pace, which felt significantly longer compared to 13k and 14k earlier this week. I guess fatigue is slowly creeping in and I shall welcome an easy day tomorrow.
